Fine-tune your survey's appearance, behavior, and distribution.

Survey Settings

Each survey has a settings panel accessible from the survey builder. These settings control how the survey looks and behaves for respondents.

Appearance

  • Theme Color — The primary accent color used for the progress bar, question numbers, buttons, and interactive elements. Accepts any hex color value. Default: #0d9488 (teal).
    Note: On Pro and Business plans, this is overridden by your brand color if configured.
  • Show Progress Bar — Display a progress indicator in the header showing the respondent's progress through the survey. Enabled by default.
  • Show Question Numbers — Display numbered badges on each question. Enabled by default.

Behavior

  • Randomize Questions — Shuffle the order of questions for each respondent. Useful for reducing order bias in research. Disabled by default.
  • One Response Per Person — Limit each respondent to a single submission. Disabled by default.
  • Collect Email — Ask for the respondent's email address. Disabled by default.

Completion

  • Thank You Message — Custom message displayed after the respondent submits the survey. Default: "Your feedback helps us improve. We appreciate your time."
  • Redirect URL — After submission, show a "Continue" button that takes the respondent to this URL. Leave empty to show only the thank you message.

Limits

  • Max Responses — Automatically set based on your plan. Free: 50, Pro: 2,500, Business: Unlimited. When the limit is reached, new respondents see an "at capacity" message.
  • Close Date — Optionally set a date when the survey automatically closes.

Sharing Your Survey

Share Link

Every published survey gets a unique share link like:

https://surveythis.online/s/aBcDeFgHiJ

Share IDs are 10 characters long and URL-safe. This link works for anyone — no account required.

Respondent Experience

When a respondent visits your survey link, they experience:

  1. Survey validation — We check that the survey is active and hasn't reached its response limit
  2. Response tracking — A response record is created immediately to track progress
  3. One question at a time — Clean, focused interface showing one question per screen
  4. Keyboard navigation — Press Enter to advance, making the experience fast
  5. Submission — All answers are submitted at once when the respondent clicks Submit
  6. Thank you — Custom completion screen with optional redirect

Branded Surveys

On Pro and Business plans, your surveys are automatically branded with:

  • Your organization logo in the survey header
  • Your brand color for all interactive elements
  • Business plan: the "Powered by SurveyThis" footer is removed

Configure branding in Dashboard → Settings → Custom Branding.
